This collection of papers is a very good introduction to metaphor theory. It begins with earlier works like those of Max Black and John Searle who are constantly made reference to by other thinkers. Other interesting papers are by Sam Levin, Michael Reddy, and Sam Glucksberg & Boaz Keysar. George Lakoff also presents a paper on the cognitive metaphorists perspective of thinking.
