concept: posthumanism

Posthumanism is a philosophical concept that explores and debates the possibility for evolution beyond the notion of humanism.  Postmodernism has been concerned with the concept of the posthuman because it questions assumptions underlying the human as a category. Posthumanism probes ideas like (im)mortality, invincibility, and embodiment.

When discussing the notion of technology forming prosthetic extensions for humans, posthumanism is often discussed in combination with cyborg theory.
