Real-world experience meets post-grad opportunity
By taking advantage of a wide variety of opportunities to get involved on campus, Maria Poonawala not only became part of a vibrant, supportive community – she also fine-tuned her professional and networking skills and landed a great job after graduation.
Maria chose Ryerson for two main reasons: access to career opportunities, thanks to the school’s proximity to Toronto’s Bay Street business district; and the chance to fully immerse herself in the educational experience, via the school’s many groups and organizations. During her four years in the Global Management Studies program at the Ted Rogers School of Business Management, Maria has held many positions within Ryerson, including marketing specialist for the Career Centre and director of delegate development for DECA Ryerson, external link, opens in new window. She even became CEO of IKEA Canada, opens in new window for a day, after being selected as a finalist in the Odgers Berndtson’s CEO x 1 Day competition. This unique mix of academics and experience, led Maria to a great career post-graduation as a performance improvement consultant in Ernst and Young’s technology consulting practice.
At Ryerson, we support and encourage the spirit of enterprise, providing our students with many exciting ways to participate in the world around them, both on and off campus, and before and after graduation.
