Professor Michael Kolios is a leading voice in his field. Collaborating with researchers at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and working out of the Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Science and Technology (iBEST), external link, opens in new window, a partnership between St. Michael’s Hospital and Ryerson, he is using ultrasound technology to analyze and destroy tumours and photoacoustic imaging to monitor the effectiveness of cancer treatments in real time.

PhD student Eno Hysi has worked side by side with Michael on this research, earning himself a coveted Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship in the process. Michael and Eno exemplify Ryerson’s commitment to teaching excellence and the development of next-generation talent.
