FEAS Co-op & Internship Program

Career-focused education—it’s one of the many reasons students choose Toronto Metropolitan University’s Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science. Our optional co-operative internships and the Centre for Advanced Engineering Research and Innovation in Aerospace Science (AERIAS) exemplify just how passionate we are about setting our students up for professional success. Whether you choose to participate in one or both programs, you’ll build the relationships and skills you need to be in demand with employers.

What is the Co-operative Internship?

After third year, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a full-time, paid work placement in your chosen field. For 8 to 16 consecutive months you’ll take a break from your studies, gain valuable work experience and make lasting industry connections. Our students have taken placements with many of the leading aerospace companies in Canada, including Air Canada, Bombardier, Celestica, CFN Precision Ltd., Pratt & Whitney Canada, Safran Landing Systems, Safran Electronics Canada, UTC Aerospace Systems, and SPP Canada Aircraft, Inc.

What is AERIAS?

AERIAS is recognized as one of the best work-integrated learning programs in Canada. A unique partnership between Toronto Metropolitan University and the Canadian aerospace industry, AERIAS immerses you in real-world, intensive aerospace research and design at some of the most important aerospace companies in Canada, including Bombardier, and Pratt & Whitney Canada. As part of a design group assigned to one particular project or challenge, you’ll have the opportunity to present your ideas and solutions to industry leaders, and help them make substantial improvements in their products and/or engineering processes.

Co-operative Internship

Student eligibility

As outlined on the Co-operative Internship page
  • Must be enrolled in second or third year (students in fourth year must be planning to return to school in fall semester)
  • CGPA: any student in good academic standing may apply
  • Occasionally, graduate students are also invited to participate
Duration 8-16 consecutive months 4-16 months with possibility of extension
Compensation $38,000 - 52,000 per year An hourly wage rate (generally $20/hr although subject to change)
Academic record Enrolled into course WKT 118, 218, 318 and 418 (depending on the placement duration) which appears on transcript. Graded as Pass/Fail; does not impact CGPA.
 Does not appear on transcript, and does not count as a credit towards degree
Type of experience
