More than a simple bench
Architectural Science students convert city parking to zen oasis
The mission? Create a more inviting atmosphere for city dwellers and workers to relax and enjoy the downtown area. The solution? A parklet (also known as a sidewalk extension) designed by Ryerson Architectural Science students in collaboration with the Downtown Yonge Business Improvement Area (BIA) led by Steven Ziegler, Urban and Regional Planning ‘16. Located at 15 Elm St., the parklet was built with Accoya wood, a fast-growing sustainable wood, never before used in Canada. Learn more about project.
