RALE: The future of learning

September 29, 2021
5:30 PM EDT - 6:30 PM EDT
Online via Zoom
Kyla Brierley,

Hosted by: Faculty of Science

The pandemic has encouraged higher education to consider innovative education modalities to enhance online learning. This has been especially true in the sciences where hands-on laboratory experience is simply not possible.

To address this, the Faculty of Science partnered with NexTech AR Solutions to develop an online platform for an augmented reality approach to chemistry and biology laboratories. A modest start rapidly evolved into over 40+ laboratory modules delivered online via the Ryerson Augmented Learning Experience (RALE) platform. RALE has been deployed to over 500 undergraduate students thus far. It is an all-in-one website where students engage with audio, video and augmented reality content to learn important science concepts.

RALE has the potential to revolutionize online/hybrid learning in science and beyond on a global level. AR is the future of STEM education because it provides immediate information for prelab planning that once required hundreds of words. The RALE system aligns beautifully with the academic plan as it has the student experience at its centre.

Join Dr. David Cramb (Dean, Faculty of Science) and Paul Duffy (President, NexTech AR Solutions and Ryerson Applied Computer Science ’89 Alumnus) for an in-depth overview and demonstration of RALE on September 29th to see the future of learning that’s “Made in Ontario.”
