Accreditation Studies

The Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) is the sole organization recognized by the architectural profession in Canada to:

  • assess the educational qualifications of architecture graduates
  • accredit professional degree programs in architecture offered by Canadian universities
  • certify the professional qualifications of Broadly Experienced Foreign Architects (BEFA)

The master of architecture program at Ryerson is pleased to support the CACB certification process of foreign architects. Limited space is available to enroll in master of architecture graduate courses for non-degree, accreditation studies.

Course descriptions are provided in the graduate calendar as a matter of general information to assist present and prospective students in selecting their programs of study.

The course descriptions are a guide to courses offered through the program from time to time. Not all courses will be offered every year. Courses are offered subject to faculty availability and are subject to change without notice.

For the current academic year, the following MArch graduate course is offered for accreditation studies. Academic and term dates are published by the Yeates School of Graduate Studies.

Course Professors Day/Time

AR8104 Seminar in Contemporary and Future Practice

*Please note that this course will be offered in Winter 2021.

Note: You must first be accepted by Ryerson University as a Graduate Special Student in order to be enrolled in the accreditation studies courses. Admission as a Graduate Special Student to Ryerson allows enrollment in courses for accreditation to a maximum of two graduate courses when available. It is your responsibility to contact the CACB, external link for approval of course(s) choice(s) when applying for enrollment. Admission as a Graduate Special Student neither implies nor guarantees subsequent admission to a master's program at Ryerson University. Any course(s) taken as a Graduate Special Student may not be applied towards a Ryerson degree program.

The Graduate Special Student application is a two-part process. The first part requires you to apply for program consideration prior to submitting a formal application. Your information is reviewed for eligibility by the associate chair of graduate studies in architecture.

The second part requires you, if you are deemed eligible, to submit a Graduate Special Student application to the graduate admissions office with a non-refundable $110 CAD application fee. The master of architecture program office provides you with an application package to proceed.

You must meet the minimum academic requirements of the master of architecture program. Because space is limited, meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee course enrollment.

Program consideration is ongoing. It is our policy to consider requests in the order that they are received subject to available spaces. Applications for AR8104 must be received by November 21 each year.

Detailed fees information for the upcoming academic year is usually revised mid-August.
