Martin Regg Cohn writes the Ontario politics column for the Toronto Star, Canada’s largest daily newspaper.
A foreign correspondent for 11 years, he was Chief of the Star's Middle East Bureau in Jerusalem and its Asia bureau in Hong Kong — reporting from more than 40 countries, from Afghanistan to Yemen.
He has also covered national politics from the Star’s Ottawa Bureau, and served as Deputy City Editor, Deputy Editorial Page Editor and Foreign Editor. He previously wrote a weekly world affairs column.
He has been nominated five times for the National Newspaper Award for his coverage from Sudan, Afghanistan and India — and most recently the business of beer in Ontario. He also won the Amnesty International Canada Media Award for his reporting from Sudan, and the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada media fellowship for research on Islam in Indonesia.
A native of Montreal, he has a B.A. in Economics from King’s College at Dalhousie University. His political column appears Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, and online at thestar.com.
