Dr. Want, who holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, is an associate professor in the psychology department who joined Ryerson in 2005. His research examines social learning, social cognition, and the media effects on children and adults. Recently, his work has been published in Basic and Applied Social Psychology, Body Image, Australian Journal of Psychology and Sex Roles.

Prior to joining Ryerson, Dr. Want taught at the University of British Columbia, and the University of Sheffield in the UK. Since joining Ryerson, he has taught more than 2,600 students across seven different courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has twice served on the Arts Learning and Teaching Committee, and in 2013, was awarded the faculty’s Excellence in Teaching First-Year Classes Award.

In his new role, Dr. Want will serve as a point of connection on teaching matters between students, faculty members, the Dean of Arts and the LTO. In conjunction with the Learning and Teaching Committee and a Student Advisory Committee, he looks forward to organizing events to celebrate the excellence in teaching within the Faculty of Arts, identifying unmet teaching needs in the faculty, and promoting growth areas, such as the scholarship of teaching and learning.
