Obeid Ur Rehman will receive his PhD in Economics from the University of Michigan where he specialized in development economics and public finance.

His research examines key challenges to maximizing the impact of development policies - with a focus on migration, taxation, and education. He studies these challenges in a global context with projects in the UAE, Philippines, Pakistan, and the US. Rehman’s work analyzes the role of information asymmetry in migration and remittance decisions, the impact of social recognition and sanctions on tax compliance, and the demand for international higher education.

Before completing his PhD, Rehman received a master’s degree in public policy from Johns Hopkins University as a Fulbright scholar, a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Lahore University of Management Sciences, and worked as a Research Associate at the Center for Economic Research in Pakistan.
