RLAS Orientation Event Descriptions:

  1. Find a Friend: Finding it difficult to make new friends when things are mostly online? On Monday, August 23rd, RLAS will be hosting a speed friending event where first-years are randomly paired up for a short conversation on a given prompt to help make connections in the online world. This will help you meet like-minded incoming first-year students, and hopefully, make new and lasting friendships!

  2. PAs and Profs: On Tuesday, August 24th, you will be able to meet program administrators, professors, and student leaders from your Arts program for a casual Q&A session. This will be a great opportunity for you to ask questions for anything relating to your experience as an incoming student, such as the student experience, how to talk to profs, tips and tricks for success and any other questions regarding your program.

  3. Women Empowered: Join us for a panel discussion on Wednesday, August 25th, with female alumni from the Faculty of Arts who share their experience of their undergraduate degree as a woman, including obstacles, systemic oppression and misogyny.

  4. First Year Fears: Are you worried about what transitioning to University is going to be like? On Friday, August 27th, you can participate in a safe space for incoming first-years to share some of their fears about the upcoming school year. This will be a space to bond over shared experiences, empower each other, and get advice from upper-year students. This will also be in a casual setting with prompts to help the conversation flow.

  5. How to Get Involved on Campus: Thinking about how you can get more involved in extracurriculars in your first year? Join us on Tuesday, August 31st to meet with student groups and course unions, to learn about what they do for students, and how you can get involved. This will include a “fair” style networking session where first years get the opportunity to connect individually with student groups and course unions.

Also, keep an eye out for:

  • Our Wellness Events such as Morning Yoga, Morning Meditation, and Fitness classes!
  • Events that celebrate our diverse campus such as Cultural Connection, Equity Talks, and Multicultural Night!
  • Other Social Events including Movie Night, Pets Night, and Cooking!
