On behalf of our faculty and staff, it is our pleasure to welcome you to Ryerson University and to the Faculty of Arts! We are pleased that you have decided to pursue your undergraduate degree studies with us and hope that you will find it a rewarding experience. We want to be sure that your transition to university is as smooth as possible.

COVID-19 Update: All of our Fall 2020 courses will be offered through remote delivery. The Faculty of Arts is committed to ensuring that all events are accessible and inclusive. Please contact stulife@arts.ryerson.ca at least two weeks prior to the event if you have any particular accommodation requirements.

The transition to university is an exciting time, but it can be a challenging time, too. There are a number of things you need to know and are able to do during the summer months, before classes formally begin in September, to make this transition as smooth as possible. Here are eight ways to prepare for the start of classes.

Your Ryerson online ID gives you access to a variety of online resources including Ryerson Gmail, RAMSS, D2L Brightspace, etc. You must activate your Ryerson online identity 24 hours prior to adding and enrolling courses on RAMSS.

Students will be prompted to set up their Two-Factor Authentication for security purposes. Please visit the Ryerson CCS website, opens in new window on how to set up Two-Factor Authentication. Students should download the Google Authenticator app on their mobile phone or can purchase a U2F security key from the Campus Bookstore which can be plugged into your computer and provide authentication for two-factor logins.

 

Apply online from June 1 to August 15, 2020 for your Ryerson OneCard. See website for more details: https://www.ryerson.ca/university-business-services/onecard/student-onecard/apply-online/. Please note that in light of COVID-19, the OneCard application process for fall 2020 has been amended. Incoming students are required to apply for their OneCard online and submit a photo for their card. The website will be updated as more information regarding their plans for fall 2020 OneCard distribution becomes available.

 

 

 

 

View your program's enrollment information to find out what type of programming or activities they are hosting to assit you with enrollment on the first week of August. Click on the Program Enrollment Information Tab to find out more details.

View the videos under the Enrollment Videos tab to help understand how to navigate RAMSS when first-year enrollment opens up on August 11th, 2020. It is highly advised to watch the videos at least one-week in advance to avoid any issues the day or enrollment and will also provide ample time to ask any questions.

Orientation for the Faculty of Arts begins on Monday, August 24th

This two week orientation is the first of its kind. With an online format, the Faculty of Arts and the Ryerson Liberal Arts Society have been developing new ways to connect with students and build the student community virtually. Events for this year include; Digital Cafe events with professors and staff, online games, music sharing, scavenger hunts and so much more! You don’t have to miss a single event because you can attend from anywhere!

It’s a good idea to tour Ryerson before the first week of classes so that you are familiar with the campus. The Undergraduate Admissions Office is now offering guided virtual campus tours. You should pre-register for a tour online through the Undergraduate Admissions Office, opens in new window.

Ryerson offers a wide range of personal and academic support services such as:

  • Academic Accomodation Support - for students living with disabilities and looking for academic accomodations
  • International Student Support - for students who are new to Canada and seeking support in their transition
  • Student Experience Centre - specifically for Faculty of Arts students; the SEC is comprised of a group of student affairs professionals that provide wide range of services such as personal and career counselling, leadership training, community involvement opportunities, student funding, connections to campus-wide services and learning abroad.
  • Student Learning Support - for students seeking assistance in their academic studies. Offers support in writing, math, English for non-native speakers, study skills and transition.
  • Ryerson Medical Centre - for students seeking health services on campus.

On Tuesday, August 11th, 2020 you will have the opportunity to enroll in your courses on Ryerson's Administrative Management Self Service (RAMSS). You can find this by going to my.ryerson.ca and clicking on the RAMSS tab. It is important that you prepare for your enrollment appointment before August 11th to prevent any issues on the day of enrollment. Please ensure to view the videos under the Enrollment Videos tab and carefully read the detailed information found in your program's Enrollment Worksheet. Students may begin to add courses to their shopping cart starting on Thursday, August 6th

The Arts and Contemporary Studies program will be presenting an online Enrollment Workshop on August 5th from 1:00pm to 2:00pm via Zoom. They will also be hosting a drop-in Zoom session on August 6th from 10:00am to 11:00am where students can ask questions they may have about the program or first-year enrollment. The History Department will be hosting a Zoom webinar on August 10th at 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. There will be a presentation by the Department and an opportunity at the end of the session for students to ask questions pertaining to first-year enrollment or anything program-specific. The International Economics and Finance program will be hosting a Pre-Enrollment Workshop live on August 6th to assist students on how to navigate RAMSS and discuss first-year courses. The Philosophy program will be hosting a 1.5-hour virtual Pre-Enrollment Webinar on Thursday August 6th at 3pm. The link to join the Zoom session will be sent via email. During the session, the Philosophy program will be available to answer any questions or concerns from students to assist in course registration. The Politics and Governance program will be offering two optional drop-in sessions via Zoom only for those students who need course selection help. The Faculty of Arts Academic Orientation is a mandatory event for incoming Arts students. Each faculty within the University hosts an Academic Orientation day and it is a great opportunity to hear more information about your program; University life and resources; and have the chance to ask questions. The Faculty of Arts Academic Orientation will be held on Tuesday, September 1st, 2020 at 10:00am.

The Ryerson Liberal Arts Soceity (RLAS), external link, opens in new window is a student-led society that is responsible for advocating and serving the interests of Faculty of Arts students. As a student in the Faculty Arts, you are automatically a member of RLAS. The Ryerson Liberal Arts Society together with the Faculty of Arts will be hosting a two-week Orientation from August 24th to September 4th, 2020.

The RLAS and the Faculty of Arts have collaborated to bring Orientation SWAG packages right to your door! These packages will include a bunch of orientation goodies. Some of the items are:

RLAS Orientation Event Descriptions

Power Up Monday → Join us at the beginning of each week for ice breakers, brain teasers, and more! Power Up Monday will consist of two sessions: Monday August 24th and Monday August 31st, each of which will host a variety of activities. Session 1 will welcome incoming students to the RLAS Orientation programming, and run activities where they can get to know each other. Session 2 will be co-hosted by Ryerson Recreation and Athletics, where a professional instructor will lead a Masala Bhangra class!

PA’s and Profs: Digital Cafe → Taking place on Tuesday, August 25th, meet your Program Administrator, Professors, and student group representatives in intimate Q&A sessions! Incoming students will have the chance to meet their program faculty in an informal setting  before classes start.

SSH Talks → On Thursday August 27th and Thursday September 4th the RLAS will be hosting a series of Diversity Conversations and Protips Discussions called “SSH Talks”. The Diversity Conversations will be presented by professional speakers, and focus on consent, accessibility, positive space, and anti-racism. Protips sessions will be hosted by Ryerson students, and will provide the incoming class with tips and tricks on how to navigate their transition into university.

Power Down Friday → We will be ending each week of Orientation with a variety of relaxing activities! Session 1 will take place on Friday, August 28th with activities such as guided drawing, a pet meet and greet, and foodie recipe sharing. Session 2, on Friday, September 4th will feature spa activities, writing prompts, and music sharing to name a few!
