The transition to university is an exciting time, but it can be a challenging time, too. There are a number of things you need to know and are able to do during the summer months, before classes formally begin in September, to make this transition as smooth as possible. Here are eight ways to prepare for the start of classes.

Your Ryerson online ID gives you access to a variety of online resources including Ryerson Gmail, RAMSS, D2L Brightspace, etc. You must activate your Ryerson online identity 24 hours prior to adding and enrolling courses on RAMSS.

Visit the Ryerson CCS website for information on how to activate your online identity or watch the video under the Enrollment Videos tab.

Students will be prompted to set up their Two-Factor Authentication for security purposes. Please visit the Ryerson CCS website on how to set up Two-Factor Authentication. Students should download the Google Authenticator app on their mobile phone or can purchase a U2F security key from the Campus Bookstore which can be plugged into your computer and provide authentication for two-factor logins.

The Faculty of Arts Academic Orientation is a mandatory event for incoming Arts students. Every faculty has an Academic Orientation day and ours is on Tuesday, August 27th.

Please arrive at the Upper Gym in Ryerson’s Kerr Hall West (379 Victoria Street) at 9:00am. You will then register with your program before participating in an Academic Orientation event with your first year professors and department staff. This is a great opportunity to meet other incoming students in your program, the professors who will be teaching you in your first year, and some upper year students who are there to answer questions and help you out in your first week on campus.

After your academic session, you will join the rest of the incoming Arts students for lunch and will have the option to continue on with more fun orientation events and activities.

Please indicate that you will be attending this event by registering below.

The Ryerson Liberal Arts Society (RLAS) is your student governing body that provides programming and support for all Arts students throughout their time at Ryerson. Simply by being a Faculty of Arts student, you are a member of RLAS and can benefit from the services and events they provide.

As a first year student, you will have the opportunity to participate in RLAS Orientation! This event runs from the Afternoon on August 27th (right after your Academic Orientation) until Friday, August 30th. Events include Paint Night, Toronto Island Day, Sip ‘n’ Success, Games in the Dark, Movie Night and more!

SLC Live! Is one of the most anticipated events of Orientation! This event sees over 3,000 students, both incoming and returning. All of Ryerson’s faculties and student services collaborate on this grand event.

On Thursday, August 29th at 7:00 – 10:00pm, the Ryerson Student Learning Center (SLC) is taken over by Orientation! Each Ryerson faculty takes over a floor of this beautiful building and animates it with exciting activities and installations. Last year, the event included concerts, DJs, a beach party, a silent dance party, athletic games, a cappella performances, poetry readings, games and lots of food! Ryerson faculties and student groups have been planning all year to make this year’s event even better!

The Faculty of Arts will be on the 5th floor and is diving deep into our Superhero theme! Come and help the Ryerson League of Arts Superheroes overcome their greatest obstacle yet! Take part in challenges and complete tasks to assemble the league and save the city! Our floor will host a number of challenges, performances and games that will ignite your creativity.

Highlights:

Back by popular demand, The Digs will return to celebrate your victory with their Toronto based soul and funk vibes to give you a real taste of the Toronto music Scene.
Toronto artists, Tali Ajimal (Faculty of Arts Alumni) and Chelsea Hudspeth (current Psychology student), will be contributing to the floor with their fabulous artwork! Original Superheroes for each department will add to our Super Décor and a giant comic strip to tell their story!
Free Food! Local Toronto snacks will be provided for those hungry super students after their mission is complete. We can already taste sweet sweet victory!
