This course is intended for Food and Nutrition students. This course includes the following topics: atomic structure and periodicity, bonding and structure, stoichiometry, solutions and their properties, equilibrium, acids and bases, and acid-base equilibria. The treatment of the above topics will emphasize understanding of chemical principles and their application to problem solving and calculations. The laboratory is an introduction to laboratory techniques, mass-volume relationships, acid-base titrations, analytical techniques and colorimetry.
