Office Of The Ombudsperson

The Office of the Ombudsperson at Ryerson University is a safe place for students to get information, advice or assistance to resolve a concern or conflict which they have been unable to resolve themselves.

Students can bring forward their concerns in confidence to the Ombudsperson’s Office with the knowledge that they will not be disclosed, unless the student provides permission for this to happen. As an impartial office, the Ombudsperson considers the perspective of both the student and the University in all cases brought to its attention. The Ombudsperson is independent of the University, all administrative structures and student government.

Students can contact the Ombudsperson’s Office if they believe they have been treated unfairly, if they are not sure what their options are, or if they would like to discuss how a Ryerson policy or procedure applies to their situation. Students who meet with the Ombudsperson or Assistant Ombudsperson will be given the opportunity to discuss their concerns, and will be informed of the options available to them to move forward.

Students who have already tried to resolve a problem by making use of the procedures available through the University, and believe that the decision-making process was unfair, can discuss this with the Ombudsperson’s Office. In appropriate circumstances, the Ombudsperson can recommend changes in academic or administrative processes based on an objective review of the concerns presented and the principles of fairness and natural justice.

We respond promptly to all email and telephone inquiries, and students can also schedule an appointment or drop by the Ombudsperson's Office to meet in person.
