About the Department and Team

The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will join an established internationally renowned pan-Canadian team that has decades of experience collaborating on applied interdisciplinary research projects. The team is dedicated to research related to safe active transportation in Canadian cities, focusing on pedestrians and cyclists and the built environment. 

The position will be at Ryerson's School of Occupational and Public Health which is a leader in injury and disease prevention education.  Our department is committed to excellence in teaching, relevant curriculum, innovative research and service to the community. The Opportunity

This position is full-time for 2 years with potential for renewal, under the supervision of Dr. Linda Rothman (Ryerson University). The fellow will help to run a large pan-Canadian study, involving researchers from Ryerson University, the Hospital for Sick Children, York University, University of Calgary, Simon Fraser University, BC Children’s Hospital, Public Health Ontario, Parachute and Institute National du la Researche Scientifique (INRS), Montreal.  The study will i) examine trends of road traffic injuries/deaths among pedestrians and cyclists, in relation to transportation modes changes in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and ii) evaluate the effectiveness of roadway built environment interventions.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Organization of the project and data procurement
  • Central coordination of the different centres
  • Regular communication with partners (i.e. municipalities)
  • Supervision of research assistants/coordinators/students
  • Quantitative analysis
  • Knowledge translation activities
  • Scientific paper writing and presentations
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, with a diverse range of training opportunities

Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g. Epidemiology, Geography, Public Health)
  • Highly organized
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Independent
  • Experience supervising/managing
  • Multivariate statistics skills
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), and statistical programs (preferably SAS or R)
