ResNet Terms and Conditions

  • All ResNet users must activate their my.ryerson.ca account. 
  • ResNet users must provide the Ethernet cable. 
  • Although ResNet may be used for both academic and recreational purposes, the user is expected to use the connection within the constraints of the Terms and Conditions of ResNet and the Ryerson Student Computing Guidelines.
  • A breach of this contract or The Ryerson Student Computer Guidelines will result in your connection being deactivated. 
  • ResNet is available from Pitman Hall and ILC residences only. 
  • ResNet does not support: Servers of any kind or IPX connections. 
  •  The user is responsible for any illegal activity coming from their connection, therefore, if a breach is traced back to the user’s connection, the ResNet connection will be terminated and the appropriate action will be taken. 
  • Network traffic is routinely monitored and if any infringement of these conditions is suspected, your ResNet. Connection will be disabled without prior notice. 
  • The user’s computer must be equipped with the necessary network card and associated software 
  • The user understands that he/she MUST install a current anti-virus software and remove any virus residing on their computer before connecting to ResNet – see following page Downloading Anti-Virus software
  • Ryerson highly recommends that all ResNet users ensure that their operating systems are patched with the most current patches. 
  • ResNet users must be aware that abuse of bandwidth usage affects all users at Ryerson in a negative way. 
  • Excessive bandwidth is defined as any usage that affects the overall integrity/performance of Ryerson’s Network and its users. 
  • ResNet users who partake in peer to peer application with excessive bandwidth usage will have their ResNet connection deactivated, without prior warning. 
  • The ResNet user is responsible for the installation and operation of their ResNet connection. However, Ryerson will assist the user by providing generic installation guidelines and limited hand-on support for ResNet connections only. 
  • User’s who continue to experience problems with their connection, even after the settings have been verified, by ResNet, to be correct, are urged to consult the manufacturer of their network card and/or computer for guidance on connecting to a 10MB Ethernet network, using DHCP. 
  • The user understands that interruptions to ResNet may occur without prior notice due to network failure and/or maintenance. However, whenever possible, every effort will be made to notify users when maintenance will occur. 
  • ResNet will not be held liable or responsible for any loss of academic work or academic standing that may result from any interruptions to ResNet – we urge you to save your files as often as possible. 
  • Ryerson absolutely DOES NOT repair Non-Ryerson owned computers. 
  • Ryerson absolutely DOES NOT remove viruses from Non-Ryerson owned computers. 
  • It is a Federal Offence to: Hack into other computers or networks or Send threatening or harassing messages, viruses and/or worms to others. 
  • Download and/or distribute copyrighted material 
  • Ryerson’s ResNet Prohibits: Setting up an FTP site, excessive bandwidth usage or creation of a separate network or passing traffic to another network or domain.
  • With the most advanced anti-virus technology, Ryerson is committed to providing a virus free networking environment to its users. In addition, Ryerson is offering, to all eligible users, free of charge, an updated version of Sophos anti-virus software.
