Wireless Configuration Instructions for Windows 8
These instructions will configure your wireless connection to the RU-Secure wireless network.
Note: These instructions will assume you have the latest Windows updates and are using Windows to manage your wireless connection and not a third party vendor’s program (Intel, Linksys etc.).
Configure Wireless Connection
At the bottom right of your screen, on the taskbar, click on your wireless icon.
In the Networks window that pops up, select the RU-Secure network and click Connect.
When prompted for credentials, please enter your my.ryerson username and password - please note that your student number is not a valid username to be used for the RU-Secure connection.
A warning screen will appear to inform you that Windows cannot verify the server's identity. This is the certificate which you will need to accept. Click Connect.
Your laptop/desktop will complete the connection now. This may take a few seconds.
You will now be connected to the RU-Secure wireless network. Your credentials are now cached and you will automatically be authenticated when you are within the range of the wireless signal.
NOTE: For security reasons we recommend that you do NOT cache your credentials. This is especially important for laptops that will have multiple users.
Please follow the remaining steps to disable this feature.
Disable Cached Credentials
Ensure you are connected to RU-Secure to perform the following steps:
To disable your cached credentials, go to the bottom right of your screen, click on the wireless icon. It will bring up the list of available networks. RIGHT click the RU-Secure network - which is connected, and click View connection properties.
In the RU-Secure Wireless Network Properties window, uncheck the Remember my credentials… checkbox. Click OK.
You will be disconnected from the network since you have made a change. Go back and connect to RU-Secure again to finalize these changes. (see steps 1 – 3 of the section Configure Wireless Connection)
You will be connected to the wireless network and your credentials are no longer cached. You will now be prompted each time you wish to log onto the wireless network.
