Installing VApps Client

You must have the VApps Client (Citrix Workspace app) installed on your computer before you can access the applications. Follow the installation links below as per your operating system. In case of any installation problems, you can visit Citrix Workspace App website, external link, opens in new window (external link) to manually download it.

Requirements:

  • my.ryerson username and password
  • Citrix Receiver installed on the computer
  • A network connection

Supported Operating Systems:

  • Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows Vista and higher)
  • Mac Operating System (OS X 10.6 and higher)
  • Linux Operating System (Linux kernel version 2.6.29 or higher, Ubuntu, Red Hat)

Supported Browsers:

  • All current browser in Ryerson University's Academic Computing Labs are supported.

Note: The setup process may look different on different browsers but the method of installation is the same. 

Using Internet Explorer 11

The Citrix software must be installed on each computer that you will use to access Virtual Applications (VApps).

  1. Go to https://vapps.ryerson.ca/, opens in new window
  2. Enter your my.ryerson username and password to log onto VApps.Vapps login screen
  3. Select the I agree with the Citrix license agreement check box, then click Install.

  4. The Click Log On to continue window will appear.

  6. A box with Welcome message appears. Click Start to install Citrix Receiver.

  7. Another box with License Agreement appears. Please read it and, if satisfied, click the checkbox to accept it. Now press Next.

  8. You will now get the Enable Single Sign-on screen, press DO NOT click on Enable single sign-on. Click Next

    Next, you will have to make your choice if you want to send your data to Citrix or not. Click Install.

  9. Click Allow for all websites.

  10. You are on the landing page. Go to Apps in the top menu. Click on details next to your choice and then select Add to Favorites.

    By default you will start with no applications.

The programs on Virtual Applications (VApps) are the Microsoft Windows version of the software. Some shortcuts and/or command key combinations may not work on other operating systems. Use the mouse as an alternative to access these functions.

Mozilla Firefox is the recommended Internet browser for VApps on Mac OSX.

Note: The setup process may look different on different browsers but the method of installation is the same.

 

Using Mozilla Firefox

The Citrix software must be installed on each computer that you will use to access Virtual Applications (VApps).

  1. Go to https://vapps.ryerson.ca, opens in new window
  2. If you do not see the following screen, go to step 3. If you do see it, follow points a. to c.

    a. Click I Understand the Risks.

  3. Enter your my.ryerson user name and password to logon VApps.

  4. Select I agree with the Citrix license agreement check box, then click Install.

  5. Click Save File.

    The file is saved in downloads which is shown as blue arrow in the menu bar as shown below. Click on the arrow and then click the top file 'CitrixReceiverWeb.dmg' to install it.

  6. Double click Install Citrix Receiver.

  7. Click Continue.

  8. Click Continue, click Agree.

  9. Click Install.

  10. Enter the Macintosh computer user name and password (the user must have administrator rights). Click Install Software.

  11. Next screen, DO NOT check Add Account (leave it empty) and click Continue.

    Note: Do Not Add Account, the installation may fail and you will have to remove the Citrix plugin before installing it again.

  12. Click Close.

  13. Close Citrix Receiver screen.

  14. Click Activate Citrix Receiver.

  15. Click Allow and Remember.

    By default you will start with no applications.

  16. You are on the landing page. Go to Apps in the top menu. Click on details next to your choice and then select Add to Favorites.

Depending on your computer's security settings you may see an alert upon starting Virtual Applications. The alert should look like this:

If you attempt to access your local drive from within the app, you might get another Security Warning alert:

If later, you need to change the choice you selected above, you can always go to Citrix Receiver Preferences as shown:
