Working With VApps Files

Virtual Applications (VApps) has a dedicated file storage available as Personal VApps Storage (V:) drive.

We strongly recommend you save your files on V: drive or your local device’s drive. When working on active files, use drive V for best performance. Please note that any files saved on the server’s drive C: will be wiped daily. That includes your documents folder stored on server’s drive C.

You may access Personal VApps Storage (V:) to open files or save files from within any of the applications on VApps.

Although using Personal VApps Storage (V:) is strongly recommended, you can access and save files on your own computer by following these steps:

  1. From the File menu of the application you are using, click Open to open a file.
  2. Click on the arrow beside Local Disk (C:)
  3. Double-click Users.
  4. Double-click your my.ryerson username.
  5.  Navigate to the folder on your computer in which you have saved the file, and double-click on the saved file to open it.

Remember, performance will be better if you save files onto Personal VApps Storage (V:). Once you’ve opened the file, complete a Save As to save it to V: drive storage.

Although using Personal VApps Storage (V:) is recommended, you can access and save files on a USB (thumb drive, external hard drive, USB card reader, etc.) drive by following these steps:

  1. Connect the USB drive to your computer before logging on to VApps.
  2. From the File menu of the application you are using, click Open.
  3. Navigate to the USB drive - for example, Removable Disk (E:)
  4. Navigate to the folder on your computer in which you have saved the file, and double-click on the saved file to open it.

Remember, performance will be better if you save files to Personal VApps Storage (V:). Once you’ve opened the file, complete a Save As to save it to the V: drive storage.

VApps does not have a file manager application to copy files from a local disk to Personal VApps Storage (V:).

To perform file operations you must use the file open feature in each Virtual Application.

Example:

As an example we will use the Matlab application to copy a sample file located on a local disk to VApps\Documents Storage.

File Source: Local Disk (C:)\SampleFile.sav

File Destination: Personal VApps Storage (V:)

  1. Log on to VApps.

  2. Start Matlab application.

  3. Click on Open.
