Dr. Sutama Ghosh
Dr. Sutama Ghosh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Ryerson University. She came to Canada from India in 1999 as an international student to pursue her doctoral degree at York University. Between completing her doctoral degree and joining Ryerson University as an Assistant Professor, Sutama taught in the Department of Urban Studies at York University and the Department of Geography at the University of Toronto Scarborough. Her major research focus is on the Migration and Settlement Geographies of Immigrants and Refugees to Canada. In particular, she is interested in exploring the development of immigrants as socio-cultural-political and economic citizens of Canada, understanding their unequal access to housing and employment, and the impact of such inequality on their social identities and levels of integration into the Canadian society.
TMCIS occupies space in the traditional and unceded territory of nations including the Anishnaabeg, the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples, and territory which is also now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. This territory is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, as well as the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas.
