About the Conference
The conference, Increasing Capacity for Refugee Family Reunification in Canada, will examine family separation as a condition that many refugees face when they arrive in Canada. TMCIS at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) will host the conference in collaboration with the City of Toronto's Newcomer Office, the Private Refugee Sponsor Network (Ontario), the Syrian Canadian Foundation, Afghan Women's Organization Refugee and Immigrant Services, and Muslim Children's Aid and Support Services. The conference's overall aim is to engage stakeholders to consider the current framework for refugee family reunification in Canada and identify changes to policy and practice that will make Canada more responsive to refugees' needs. Refugees from past and recent cohorts, refugee sponsors, settlement workers and service providers, researchers, and students will be invited to share insights from lived experience, settlement practice, and research activities.

  • Logistics management, including organizing catering, rental equipment, venue setup, translation and interpretation materials, signage, and accessibility requirements leading up to and during the conference.

*The coordinators will from time to time be required to undertake other duties of a similar nature as reasonably required by the conference.

Requirements
The coordinators will be hired to plan and execute a bilingual (Arabic and English) conference; preference will be given to applicants with fluency in Arabic.
