Centre for Urban Innovation

Ryerson University‚Äôs new Centre for Urban Innovation (CUI) is a collaborative space where big thinkers come together to tackle the challenges posed by our ever-growing cities. This 60,000-square-foot building opened in 2019 provides research and innovation space for faculty and students focusing on solutions to critical urban issues. From alternative energy and water management to data analytics and smart urban infrastructure, the work that takes place here will help define the cities of the next century.

Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex

Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex

Designed by the internationally acclaimed architectural firm Perkins + Will, the Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex, which opened in November 2019 at 288 Church Street, brings together four schools within the Faculty of Community Services (FCS) and provides research space, enabling entire research teams to be situated in common workspaces. Its spaces encourage not only cross-disciplinary connections among students, faculty and staff, but also interaction between the activities of the building and its surrounding community. These connections underscore the holistic approach to health and wellness taken at Ryerson and our determination to foster healthy cities and citizens.

The Centre for Urban Energy (CUE) at Ryerson University is an academic-industry partnership that explores and develops sustainable solutions to urban energy challenges.

Ryerson Urban Water

Ryerson Urban Water (RUW) is a multidisciplinary collective of over 40 experts across six faculties working on water conservation strategies including green roofs and urban forests, low-impact development and municipal master planning, engineered wetlands and wastewater mitigation strategies.

Ryerson Urban Farm
Ryerson Urban Farm

Ryerson Urban Farm (RUF) aims to build capacity for rooftop farming through production, research and engagement. It operates productive growing spaces across campus using ecological growing methods, with a main production space on the rooftop of the George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre. 

TransForm Lab

TransForm Lab examines how existing and novel means of transportation influence urban systems, and how our regions and neighbourhoods shape travel behaviour and human movement.

LiTrans Lab

The Laboratory of Innovations in Transportation (LiTrans), external link is dedicated to creating the cyber-physical future of urban mobility using intelligent technologies and mathematics.

Data Science Laboratory

Data Science Laboratory joins disciplines to model, analyze, learn and extract knowledge in diverse domains from biomedicine to environment, engineering, business, software and banking.

Office of Social Innovation

The Office of Social Innovation (OSI) creates transformative approaches to challenge complex social issues through teaching, learning and research. Our commitment to research is informed by the understanding that novel approaches are required to challenge systems of exclusion. Students study, explore and act on complex social systems through academic courses, work and internship placements, and collaborative opportunities with community partners.

Ryerson Institute for Infrastructure Innovation

The Ryerson Institute for Infrastructure Innovation (RIII) provides a catalyst for innovation on all aspects of infrastructure design, construction, financing, maintenance and operations. It adopts a systems approach through multidisciplinary research to address various infrastructure issues ranging from engineering and technological advancement to managerial and policy innovations.

Centre for Urban Research and Land Development

The Centre for Urban Research and Land Development (CUR) is dedicated to formulating policies and solutions to address the concerns confronting urban growth and change within the Greater Golden Horseshoe region.

Ryerson Urban Analytics Institute

The Ryerson Urban Analytics Institute, external link fosters data-driven insights and solutions to urban issues. Its mission is to collaborate with public, private, and non-profit sectors to devise and implement Smart City solutions for urgent urban challenges.

The Centre for the Study of Commercial Activity (CSCA) is a member-supported non-profit research centre with a mission to enhance the competitiveness of the consumer service sector for the benefit of Canadian society, located at the Ted Rogers School of Management.
