Self-Defence

Both the series and one-day workshop are open to all members of the Ryerson students, faculty, staff and members of the public.

Basic Self-Defence Series

Through in-depth discussion and interactive participation, participants will come away with a greater awareness and skills to more confidently respond to potentially concerning and aggressive behaviour.

These workshops are generally scheduled separately for those who identify as women or those who identify as men. All ages and gender identities are welcome. Participants are invited to choose the session that is most comfortable for them or contact a member of the Security team to discuss options.

Eligibility

Participants must be 13 years old or older to participate.

Basic Self-Defence Workshop

Open to all community members, including Ryerson students, faculty and staff, this three-hour workshop is a preview of the Basic Self-Defence Series. Participants will be taught how to recognize and respond to concerning or aggressive behaviour.

Key learning outcomes

Participants will come away with:

  • how to recognize and respond to concerning or aggressive behaviour;
  • how to build awareness of safety and security issues; and
  • some basic hands-on defence training.
