For more information on having your award document amended contact Curriculum Advising and click on Graduation Award Document Reissues.

In April 2022, the university was renamed Toronto Metropolitan University. This decision was unanimously accepted by university's Board of Governors following an eight month long consultation period. More than 30,000 individuals provided feedback during the community engagement survey, and in total, over 2,200 unique names for the university were submitted for consideration. The decision to rename was made in August 2021, when the university’s Board of Governors accepted the 22 recommendations of the Standing Strong Task Force.

Absolutely! Your hard-earned degree remains an accomplishment to celebrate and a credential worthy of promotion. The changing of the name of the university does not change your experience. For the last 73 years, the faculty and staff at the university have worked hard to provide an exceptional educational experience for students. The university's programs and graduates are recognized internationally for their innovative and career-ready approach. Potential employers will continue to recognize your degree for what it says about your skills, training and expertise, regardless of the name change.

Your hard-earned degree remains an accomplishment to celebrate, and a credential worthy of promotion. Alumni are certainly encouraged to keep and display their old degrees with pride, if they are comfortable doing so.

The university understands that not all alumni may want to keep their degree issued under our former name. Alumni who wish to have their degree reissued under our new name can do so. This is a service the university has always offered and alumni will continue to have this option now that we have been renamed Toronto Metropolitan University.

More details on this will be posted to the curriculum advising webpage when available.

The university has collaborated with LinkedIn to offer those who graduated prior to the renaming with the option to use either Ryerson University or the Toronto Metropolitan University when listing their education. For current alumni, Ryerson will be the default under their school information, but LinkedIn members can switch manually to Toronto Metropolitan University using the following instructions (external link) .

In late December 2022,  the university updated the email domain from “@ryerson.ca” to “@torontomu.ca”.

All active @ryerson.ca emails were converted to the @torontomu.ca email domain. Usernames (what appears before @ryerson.ca in the email address) remained the same. An email forwarding service is in place to ensure that any emails sent to your @ryerson.ca address in error are forwarded to your @torontomu.ca address. Users will also be notified if/when the forwarding stops.

Both email domains belong to TMU. In February 2024, TMU created an additional domain, cloudmail.torontomu.ca. This domain allows the university to send email on behalf of TMU via approved third-party email applications like Campaigner. With the rise of sophisticated email-based fraud, the introduction of the cloudmail.torontomu.ca domain offers an additional layer of verification for the TMU community to confirm email origins.

Legitimate TMU emails will always originate from addresses ending in torontomu.ca or .torontomu.ca.

If you receive an email from @cloudmail.torontomu.ca, it is likely to have been sent on behalf of TMU via a third-party email system. Despite this, like all email, we encourage you to use caution and keep in mind tips for spotting phishing emails.
