Our Community, Our Diversity 2018 Diversity Self-ID Report

We know that reporting on the diversity of our community on a consistent basis enables us to know how we are improving in the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion.

In June 2019, the Office of the Vice-President Equity and Community Inclusion released its latest Employee Diversity Self‑ID Report, providing updated information on the recruitment, representation and retention of employees from six equity groups: women, racialized people, Indigenous Peoples, Black people, persons with disabilities and 2SLGBTQ+ people.

This report also presents a special focus section on Indigenous Peoples. It provides further insights into the barriers to employment for Indigenous people as well as some of the actions Ryerson is taking to remove barriers and increase the representation of First Nations, Inuit and Metis people at the university.

While Ryerson is diverse in many ways, and there are achievements, there are also still gaps in representation. Ryerson continues to be committed to transparency in reporting our progress and to addressing historic and current disadvantages for underrepresented and marginalized group so that we can create a workplace climate in which we can all thrive.

We look forward to hearing how these goals can be achieved in your unit. Please send your feedback about Ryerson’s 2018 Employee Diversity Self-ID Report to equity@torontomu.ca.

Employee Diversity Data Information

Employee diversity data comes from employees who have completed TMU’s Diversity Self-ID questionnaires, which are part of the self-service functionality in the HR system. Although the university requires that employees complete the questionnaire, self-identification is voluntary as there is a “Prefer not to answer” option for every self-identification question.

Employee diversity data visualizations and downloads

Data visualizations are available on this site. They provide graphical illustrations of information and data, along with the ability to interact with the data. The most immediate application of interactivity with data visualizations is the ability for the users to drill deeper into datasets by hovering or clicking over portions of the illustration.

These visualizations provide further details about the recruitment, representation and retention of employees from six equity groups: women, racialized people, Indigenous Peoples, Black people, persons with disabilities and 2SLGBTQ+ people.

The data can be downloaded using links provided in each section. This is how the information is accessible to those using screen readers and other assistive technologies.
