Toronto Metropolitan University’s Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science (FEAS) is proud to be a partner of WEMADEIT, an initiative that tackles the gender gap in engineering through outreach programming. Developed in order to improve enrolment and career opportunities for women and young girls in engineering, WEMADEIT is a partnership involving Hydro One, University of Waterloo, Western University, Ontario Tech University and Toronto Metropolitan University. Through the WEMADEIT (external link) website, the initiative offers students, parents, teachers and undergraduates access to resources, guidance and inspiring “engHero” profiles.
FuturENG at Toronto Metropolitan University welcomes highly motivated and talented female students in Grades 9 and 12 to discover engineering at the university level. Funded by Hydro One through the WEMADEIT (external link) program, this intensive two-day program combines theory with practical experience in cutting-edge technologies.
Over the course of a weekend, students participate in a series of workshops and hands-on activities that foster problem solving, analytical and communication skills. The event allows students to better understand life as an engineer, with a focus on the global and societal impacts of the profession. Students will also have the opportunity to meet industry professionals, engineering mentors and students across the Greater Toronto Area, building a network of like-minded women in STEM.
