New Collective Agreement and Payroll Processing

April 01, 2019

To: RFA members

In light of the Interest Arbitration Award issued by Arbitrator Kaplan on January 28, 2019, the renewal Collective Agreement between the Board of Governors of Ryerson University and the Ryerson Faculty Association will end on June 30, 2020. Thereafter, this Collective Agreement will remain in force until a renewal Collective Agreement takes effect.

Your April 15, 2019 pay cheque reflects your appropriate salary and the appropriate retroactive pay owed to you as a result of the arbitrated salary increases.

Members who are employed as of January 28, 2019 are entitled, where appropriate, to salary adjustments retroactive to July 1, 2018.

A member who was a member of the Association as of June 30, 2018 and who continues to be a member is entitled to receive an across-the-board increase of 1.75% and a sector adjustment of 0.25%, effective July 1, 2018. For pre-tenure faculty members who commenced employment on or after July 1, 2018, your starting salary is your salary during your first appointment year and thereafter you are eligible for the negotiated salary increases that accrue to you under the terms of the 2018 – 2020 RFA Collective Agreement. Specifically, a new hire starting July 1, 2018 or after would not be eligible to receive the ATB and sector adjustments of July 2018 nor the Career Development Increment (CDI) payable September 1, 2018, as CDIs are provided based on satisfactory service in the prior academic year (in this case service in the 2017-2018 year).

CDI’s are effective on September 1, 2018, in accordance with the terms of the Collective Agreement. For all Association members the value of a CDI on September 1, 2018 is $3,250.00 (paid monthly) and, where appropriate, will be added to your RFA base salary.

The effective dates of Career Development Increments (CDIs) awarded for rank promotion (i.e. for the 2018 – 2019 and 2019 – 2020 time periods) remain unchanged, that is, they are effective September 1st. Where such processes have been completed and the promotional CDI has been granted for September 1, 2018 CDI, this CDI payment will also be added to your RFA base salary and paid retroactively with effect from September 1, 2018.

In addition to this communication, you will receive a salary calculation sheet explaining the increases to your salary. This sheet will be sent to you as a confidential hardcopy memo to your home school/department/unit.
