GATO - The Geographic Analysis Token

Blockchain technology is touted as a major innovation in IT. It supports the secure, distributed storage of data. One type of such data represents account transactions, leading to the concept of decentralized finance. Different existing blockchains are associated with their native cryptocurrency "coins", including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and their alternatives ("altcoins"). In addition, some blockchains support the creation of secondary assets called "tokens".

Recently, the idea to create a token for the Geographic Analysis program was born. The Geographic Analysis Token (ticker symbol GATO) will be given to the graduating class of 2021 to acknowledge their successful degree completion despite the COVID-19 crisis. The token will also be used for student recruitment and other academic purposes. More details are available in the  (PDF file) GATO white paper (opens in new window)  and with the GATO record on the SLP Tokens Explorer (external link, opens in new window) .

Recipients of GATO units will need to create a "wallet" using a wallet application compliant with Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and the Simple Ledger Protocol (SLP), such as the Bitcoin.com Wallet (Web or mobile), Electron Cash SLP version (desktop), wallet.fullstack.cash (Web), or Zapit.io (Android only). Caution, these tools and the BCH SLP environment are still somewhat experimental. You will need to learn about the general operation of a cryptocurreny wallet, including to keep your private key and mnemonic secure at all times and how to share your public key to receive a transaction.
