Between 1914 and 1918, the ‘Great War’ touched the lives of every Canadian man, woman, and child, whether they remained at home or served overseas, and it continues to be one of the most fascinating and pivotal moments in Canadian history.

It has been widely accepted that Canada ‘came of age’ during the War and that the country went through a process of national transformation. This course examines this process of transformation and questions its validity, extent, and impact on Canadian life. Did Canada really emerge from the War as a ‘nation transformed’?
