Indigenous Outreach
Welcome to Stoodis Science!
Stoodis Science is one of SciXchange's public outreach, engagement, and science communication initiatives. Stoodis is slang commonly used in Indigenous communities and is derived from "Let's do this!" Stoodis Science focuses on providing spaces for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous folks to learn about Indigenous ways of knowing, doing, and being and how they relate to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and arts (STEAM) concepts!
Stoodis Science started in 2018 with the hiring of Amber Sandy as the innaugural Coordinator of Indigenous Knowledge and Science Outreach. Jenna Barnhardt also joined the team in 2019 as an Indigenous research assistant. In July 2022, Caleb Wesley took over for Amber as the Coordinator.
Stoodis Science's programming is constantly evolving as we experiment and develop new content. We focus heavily on working with youth from grades 1 - 12 in schools, post-secondary students here at TMU, and members of the general public and TMU community.

Wahchay, Aaniin, Boozhoo, She:kon, Hello!
My name is Caleb Wesley and I am a member of Moose Cree First Nation. I was born and raised in my home community of Moose Factory, ON. I have family connections all across the James Bay coast, with direct connections to the communities of Fort Albany, Attawapiskat, Waskaganish, and Wemindji. I always loved being out in nature and I remember going out into the bush to make fires with my grandmother and going on boat rides with my aunties and uncles.
My family moved to Toronto, ON when I was in grade 6 hoping that my sister and I would have a better education down south. We moved the the neighbourhood of Rexdale and I spent all of middle school and high school in Rexdale. I attended York University where I enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in biology. I've worked in education since 2016, starting off my journey at York University's Science Engagement Programs. Soon after, I enrolled in a Bachelor of Education in the Wabaan Indigenous teacher education program.
I feel like all of my time on the land in my community and my academic and educational experiences have trained me specifically for my work as Coordinator of Indigenous knowledge and science outreach. I'm so honoured that I get to use my knowledge and skills to bring Indigneous knowledges, stories, languages, and life skills into the realm of STEAM education! The youth are the future of our communities and I'm honoured to do my part in Indigenizing and decolonizing STEAM education for future generations!
