Repaying Your OSAP Loans (NSLSC)

Repaying Your OSAP

Your OSAP student loans begin to collect interest once you are no longer enrolled in full-time or part-time studies. This could mean that you have graduated, have dropped from a full-time to a part-time course load, or have withdrawn from studies (whether permanently or temporarily).

You will receive a notice from the government to begin repaying your OSAP student loans six months after your study period ends. This notice is available through your National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) account (external link, opens in new window)

Heading back into full-time studies or part-time studies within six months? To maintain interest-free status and have all interest accrued waived, you need to do one of the following before your six month period lapses:

  1. Apply for OSAP; or
  2. Apply for interest-free status

Who Am I Paying Back?

The National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) is an independent, third party agency responsible for the repayment and collection of all student loan funding in Canada. Think of the NSLSC as the “banker” of student loans.

Within six months of your study period end, you will receive a digital package from the NSLSC. This package is called your Consolidation Package, and it contains information about:

  • Your total number of payments
  • The date of your first payment
  • The interest rates used to calculate your payment

Sign in or register for your online NSLSC account (external link, opens in new window)  to track your student loan balance. Through your personalized NSLSC account, you can:

  • Check your student loans status and balances
  • Update your contact information
