Dr. Brian Segal

Chair, Ted Rogers Leadership Centre

Dr. Segal was President of Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) from 1980 to 1988 and President and Vice-Chancellor of University of Guelph from 1988 to 1992. From 1992 to 1999 he was Publisher of Maclean’s magazine and Senior Vice President of Rogers Publishing. From 1999 until his retirement at the end of 2011 he was President and CEO of Rogers Publishing. In 2021, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada.

In 2009 he created The Ted Rogers Leadership Centre and has been the volunteer chair, director of strategy and programming and director of development for the Centre.

Dr. Segal is married to Bunny Segal and they have 3 children and 8 grandchildren. Dr. Segal is an avid cyclist, hiker and skier... and a lousy golfer.

Brian Segal received his Ph.D. in social policy in 1971 and his M.Sc in Health Policy in 1970 from the University of Pittsburgh. He received an MSW from Yeshiva University in 1967 and a B.Sc. from McGill University in 1964.

Dr. Segal was awarded an honorary doctorate by Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) in 2008 and was appointed as a Legacy Laureate by University of Pittsburgh in 2008.
