Welcome back! An update from the Ryerson Eats team

January 11, 2022

To: Returning meal plan holders

Welcome back! While the mid-year winter break may have looked a little different this year, we hope you had a safe and restful holiday season and are looking forward to the beginning of winter classes.

As you are likely aware, on December 16 Ryerson announced that it is shifting to virtual course delivery and remote work wherever possible until January 31. As we continue to navigate the pandemic, we’re emailing you to remind you of our health and safety protocols and give you an update on our dining hall and retail operations for the beginning of the winter 2022 semester.

You can learn more about our winter 2022 dining hall and retail operations by visiting the 2021/2022 dining model and operations page on our website.

Your health and safety remains our top priority

Since the onset of the pandemic, our team has implemented a number of enhanced health and safety procedures and protocols in the dining halls in an effort to keep our guests healthy and safe.

This includes a requirement that all meal plan holders have attested to their vaccination status via RyersonSafe, complete a daily health screening before entering the dining halls, adhere to physical distancing requirements and wear a mask or face covering at all times in the dining halls.

To learn more about our COVID-19 health and safety protocols, please visit the 2021/2022 dining model and operations page on our website.

Dine-in service temporarily suspended in the dining halls; takeout meals continue to be available

With Ontario’s move to a modified step two of the Roadmap to Reopen (external link) , we are temporarily suspending dine-in meal service at both the Pitman and ILC dining halls. All meals from the dining halls will be taken to go in reusable OZZI containers while restrictions on indoor dining remain in place.

The Pitman Dining Hall is open for takeout meal service as of January 9, 2022, while the ILC Dining Hall will reopen for the semester at 7:30 a.m. on January 17, 2022.

Ryerson Eats meal delivery service temporarily unavailable

The emergence of the Omicron variant and new provincial restrictions on indoor dining have required our team to quickly pivot our operations in the dining halls to ensure the safety of our guests and staff. In order to focus on these changes to our operations, we are temporarily suspending our optional Ryerson Eats meal delivery service.

We anticipate being able to reintroduce this service shortly and you will receive an email from our team once we are able to do so.

Students self-isolating in residence will have their meals delivered to their room

In the event you’re required to self-isolate due to a positive COVID-19 test, COVID-19 symptoms or recent international travel, your meals will be delivered directly to your residence room.

If you are self-isolating, please ensure that this has been communicated to Housing and Residence Life staff. Upon notifying Housing and Residence Life, you will receive an email from our team with instructions for ordering meals for the duration of your isolation period.

The DCC Market is open

Along with the dining halls, we have reopened the DCC Market as of the beginning of the winter 2022 semester.

Starbucks at the SLC will remain temporarily closed for at least the beginning of January while the SLC team reassesses its plans for opening the building in a manner that supports community health and safety.

As Ryerson continues planning for a measured approach to on-campus activities, we will be exploring opportunities to reopen additional Ryerson Eats locations and will inform you in the event we decide to open more locations.
