Sock Footage invites you to buy a pair of socks, donate a second to a person in need

November 28, 2019

Located outside of the ServiceHub on the ground floor of the Podium Building, a new vending machine by Sock Footage (external link)  aims to help close the gap in clothing donations to emergency and crisis shelters all while helping you put your most stylish foot forward.

Founded by Ryerson grad Marisa Sheff in 2019, Toronto-based Sock Footage has rolled out a new vending machine on Ryerson’s campus offering a variety of men and women’s novelty socks at a cost of $10 to $12 per pair. With each purchase, a second pair of grey, cotton socks are dispensed for you to donate to a person in need.

Individuals may place the second pair of socks they receive into the collection receptacle attached to the Sock Footage machine to be donated to Socks 4 Souls Canada (external link)  or they can hand-deliver the socks to a person in need or to a charity of their choice.

Socks represent one of the most needed but least donated clothing items received by emergency and crisis shelters in southwestern Ontario, with more than 20% of all medical issues affecting individuals experiencing homelessness related to foot care.
