About Us

Urban Water TMU is a multidisciplinary consortium of researchers who strive to solve complex urban water challenges through transdisciplinary research, strong external networks, and collaborative action.

The Centre comprises researchers and students from across 6 faculties and 13 departments from the natural sciences and engineering, to policy landscapes, to social science arenas. Our experts work on a broad range of complex urban water challenges, including urban water management and governance such as contaminants of emerging concern, urban natural systems and green technologies such as low impact development and green roofs, and freshwater pollution and governance such as salinization due to road salting practices and Indigenous community water challenges.

By 2025, the Urban Water TMU aims to be a leader in transdisciplinary research in urban water management and governance, urban natural systems and green technologies, and freshwater science and governance. The dedicated labs and collaborative spaces bring together researchers and students from diverse disciplines and showcase the dynamic research and activities of the Centre. An active Student Leadership Committee connects students from diverse disciplines and undertakes initiatives which are elevated by the core research membership. Multidisciplinary course offerings in green infrastructure and the First Nations water crisis are available to students across campus. The research and activities of the Centre are communicated and disseminated to internal and external stakeholders and the Centre has a sustainability plan within the University.
