Deborah Newman held the position of Deputy Minister in the Ontario Public Service from 2005 to 2015, serving as Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, Deputy Minister of Correctional Services and Deputy Minister of Community Safety. Deborah’s career in the public service encompasses over 35 years in direct service, management and executive roles in Ontario and Alberta. Currently, Deborah is serving on an expert panel conducting a review of the use of residential services for children and youth in Ontario.
Deborah has worked extensively in both adult correctional services and youth justice services. In her previous role as Assistant Deputy Minister of Youth Justice Services, she led the transformation of services for youth in conflict with the law in Ontario, including the implementation of the Youth Criminal Justice Act and the creation of a dedicated system for young people.
