CSR Institute-supported Session: Renegotiating NAFTA - Exploring the Implications

Ryerson University Institute for the Study of Corporate Social Responsibility is pleased to support a NAFTA panel exploring NAFTA Renegotiations and the Canadian free trade framework and the impact of NAFTA renegotiation on Canadian business. The connection between NAFTA and CSR will be explicitly explored.

The session is organized by the Law and Business Department in Ryerson University's Ted Rogers School of Management. The agenda for this event is as follows:

Each panelist has 15 minutes, followed by a 15 minute Q&A discussion among panellists and then a 10 minute Q&A discussion, interacting with the audience.

Michael Benarroch (Provost and Vice-President, Academic at Ryerson University). Michael is sought-after internationally for his research insights on the global economic outlook, globalization, and the impact of trade on the environment. He has taught economics at Canadian universities since 1989, and has served provincial governments as an advisor in economic affairs.

Daniele Bertolini (Assistant Professor in the Department of Law & Business, Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Management). Daniele where he teaches Legal Aspects of International Business and Government Regulation of Business. His research centres on regulatory law, contract law and law and economics.

Hershell Ezrin (Distinguished Visiting Scholar, Ted Rogers School of Management; Senior Fellow, Ryerson Ted Rogers Leadership Centre). With more than 30 years of experience in senior executive roles, public policy, non-profit advocacy, and strategic communications, Hershell currently acts as Senior Counsel with Global Public Affairs’ Ontario practice.

Lawrence L. Herman is one of Canada’s top experts on NAFTA who has practiced international trade and investment law and policy both in government and the private sector for 45 years. He was a member of Canada’s mission to the UN and GATT in the 1970s, and acted as counsel for Canada in the International Court of Justice, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, NAFTA panels, and Canadian courts. Mr. Herman sits on the Canadian government’s NAFTA Advisory Committee, the executive of the Canada-US Law Institute, and as a Senior Fellow with C.D. Howe Institute.

Gil Lan (Associate Professor in the Department of Law & Business, Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Management). Gil teaches business law at the Ted Rogers School of Management. He is also a Council Member of the Canada-China Institute for Business Development at TRSM. His research centres on corporate-commercial law with a focus on international perspectives.

Lorne Lipkus (Founding partner, Kestenberg Siegal Lipkus LLP).  He practices throughout Canada in the area of intellectual property litigation with a principle focus on protecting the intellectual property and the intellectual capital of his clients. 

Michael J. Trebilcock (Distinguished University Professor and Professor of Law, University of Toronto). He specializes in Law and Economics, International Trade Law, Competition Law and Economic and Social Regulation.

Kernaghan Webb (LL.B, LL.M., LL.D.) (Associate Professor in the Department of Law & Business, Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Management). He is also the Director of the Ryerson University Institute for the Study of Corporate Social Responsibility.  His research and writing focuses on innovative approaches to regulation, and has been quoted and followed by the Supreme Court of Canada.
