Challenge Credits

A challenge credit grants Ryerson students  an academic credit  for a Ryerson course in recognition of skills and knowledge gained outside the traditional post-secondary school environment e.g. through work experience. The experience gained replicates the subject matter of the course material.

Challenge Credit Conditions
  • Not all courses may be challenged.
  • Students must be formally enrolled into a degree or certificate program at Ryerson to be eligible to apply for a challenge credit.
  • Most degree programs allow a maximum of five one-term, one-course count challenge credits.
  • The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education certificate programs allow a maximum of two one-term, one-course count challenge credits.
  • Only courses that are applicable to meeting Ryerson program requirements will be considered for challenge credit.
  • Courses already completed at Ryerson University or another post-secondary institution may not be challenged.
  • Courses that have been unsuccessfully challenged at Ryerson, are not eligible for challenge credit consideration.
  • The Ted Rogers School of Business Management does not allow Challenge Credit for courses taught by the School.
  • The Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science, and the Faculty of Science do not allow Challenge Credit for courses taught by their Faculties.
  • The Teaching Department Challenge Credit application decision is final and may not be appealed.

  • Confirm you are eligible.
  • Contact the Teaching Department of the course you wish to challenge to determine if the course may be challenged.
