Employee Diversity Data Visualizations

Data visualizations provide a graphical illustration of information and data along with the ability to interact with the data. The most immediate application of interactivity with data visualizations is the ability for the users to see the data that corresponds to the visual by hovering or clicking over portions of the illustration. To explore the data further, the aggregated data can be downloaded and saved in a variety of formats such as Google Sheets, MS Excel, CSV and more. Faculties and divisions can put the downloaded data together to create a file with the representation of each equity group for your area. 

These visualizations provide details about the recruitment, representation and retention of employees from five equity groups: women, racialized people, Aboriginal Peoples, persons with disabilities and 2SLGBTQ+ people.

Data used in this report was voluntarily provided by employees who completed the Diversity Self-ID. Employees who self-identify as a member of more than one equity-seeking group are counted under each group, and so may be counted more than once.


  • Women students’ data is from 2017/18 undergraduate enrollment data.
  • Data for racialized, Aboriginal and 2SLGBTQ+ students, and students with disabilities, is from the 2017 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), which surveys 1st and 4th-year students in full-time programs


  • Data for women, racialized people (referred to as visible minorities in the Census) and Aboriginal Peoples is from the 2016 Census data for the GTA.
  • Data for persons with disabilities is from the 2017 Canadian Disability Survey for Ontario.
  • Data for 2SLGBTQ+ people is from a 2001 Toronto Health Survey.
