Biomedical Undergraduate

One of the fastest-growing disciplines within engineering, biomedical engineering is advancing the health-care industry and improving the lives of patients worldwide. Through clinical partnerships, our faculty and students are helping to solve modern medicine’s most pressing challenges, whether it’s how to diagnose diseases earlier, treat illnesses more effectively or improve the well-being and overall health of society. Our Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) program in biomedical engineering will prepare you for a career in the health-care industry: developing new medications; designing prosthetics, biomechanical implants and medical devices; or analyzing medical images through machine learning.

Our faculty’s network of clinical partnerships with Toronto’s leading hospitals means students have access to cutting-edge laboratories and research institutes – including the Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Science and Technology (iBEST), external link, opens in new window, a collaboration between Ryerson University and St. Michael’s Hospital. Here, and elsewhere across the city, we’re advancing medical diagnostics and treatment for improved patient care. You can gain valuable, paid work experience via the optional co-operative internship program, and by your fourth and final year, you’ll leave here well-equipped to launch your career in a field such as implantable and wearable devices, biomaterials, medical imaging or pharmacology.

The biomedical engineering (BEng) degree program is fully accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB), external link, opens in new window.
