Special & Visiting Students

You are special; there’s no question about it. But do you qualify for Special Student status at the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science (FEAS)?

You may be qualified for Special Student status (also known as Visiting Student status) if you are enrolled in one or more FEAS courses but are not registered in one of our degree programs. Many other conditions do apply, so please consult the information below to learn more.

Special Student Status for Engineering

You may be qualified for Special Student status in engineering* if you are:

  1. Currently enrolled at another university and you need to take courses that you cannot access at your home institution; or
  2. An international student enrolled in a recognized joint program with Ryerson; or
  3. A university graduate in engineering looking to upgrade your skills and knowledge for employment or post-graduate studies

Note: A “required to withdraw” standing (or equivalent) from any university does not qualify you for Special Student status at Ryerson Engineering.

*Special Student status is not an entry point into Ryerson Engineering programs.

Step 1 – Submit your online application

Read the application instructions and follow the steps for creating an account and completing the application form. Select program choice “Special Engineering” and program code "SEE." Submit your application electronically as instructed.

Step 2 – Submit required documents

Once you have received an email acknowledgment of your application from Ryerson, and you have successfully activated your Ryerson online identity, you should begin the process of submitting your supporting documentation through your Choose>Ryerson Applicant Portal.

Your supporting documentation should be one of the following:

  • Letter of permission from your current post-secondary institution; or
  • Letter of academic evaluation from a licensing body (i.e., Professional Engineers of Ontario or Association of Ontario Land Surveyors); or
  • Letter from a Ryerson graduate program director recommending qualifying courses for potential admission to a specific graduate program.

Note: As a Special Student applicant, you are not required to submit academic transcripts.
