Muslim Employee Community Network

Who we are

The TMU Muslim Employee Community Network is a group of Toronto Metropolitan University employees who identify as Muslim, working together to foster an environment of mutual respect and awareness.

What we do

Through our community networking, we provide an organized support system to members of the Muslim community. Our goal is to support employees who self-identify as Muslim by:

  • consulting on and creating awareness around inequities facing Muslim community members
  • providing a safe space to discuss issues
  • holding events open to the wider ryerson community
  • connecting with other community networks on common and intersecting issues

Support for Muslims on campus

The Muslim Employee Community Network has prepared a list of resources and supports you can turn to if you have faced Islamophobia on campus.

Students are encouraged to contact the Centre for Student Development and Counselling

The department of Community Safety and Security can help you file a report if you have been involved in a security incident related to Islamophobia, be it a verbal or physical attack.

Employees can reach out to the Employee and Family Assistance Program for confidential and voluntary support. The program is administered by Shepell (external link)  and services are entirely anonymous.

As part of the Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion (OVPECI), Human Rights Services can:

  • provide advice and coaching on responding to Islamophobia on campus
  • guide you through the process to report an incident or make a complaint related to Islamophobia

As part of Human Resources, Workplace Wellbeing Services can provide support with workplace accommodation requests and questions about sick leave for individuals who require time off or modified duties resulting from Islamophobia.

If you are not sure who to contact, you are welcome to contact the co-chairs.
