Pride 2019 is almost here and we've been busy planning exciting events for employees to celebrate diversity and inclusion in our community!
This year, the theme of Ryerson’s Display Your Pride challenge is sustainable, systemic impact.
Don’t get us wrong—rainbows and balloons are great! Visibility in general is incredibly important. We want you to participate in any way you’re able!
In addition to the fabulous decor, here are some ideas on how you can display your pride with inclusive, educational and sustainable practices.
We’re asking teams and individuals to consider the environmental sustainability of displaying our pride. Please try to decorate with items that are reusable in years to come… or permanent!
Over the past few years, we’ve noticed incredible effort being made on displays that show the contributions of 2SLGBTQ+ folks in a particular discipline. For example, the Office of the Dean, Faculty of Science highlighted queer scientists throughout history.
We know many offices are making changes to their practices/policies/procedures to be more inclusive of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions. We encourage you to use display your pride to highlight the changes you’ve made and share ideas that other departments could adopt!
To encourage these themes, our awards this year are:

This year, we’re asking all participants to submit photos of their display using a Google Slide template by Friday, June 14 for consideration by all our judges and to share at the Display Your Pride celebration.
