The Business Operations and Space Planning team is led by Executive Director, Janet Hercz. Under Janet’s leadership, we support communications as well as the financial, human resources and administrative activities of the entire Facilities Management and Development (FMD) department.

Space planning at Ryerson

The space planning team, managed by John Fauquier, is responsible for functional programming and operational readiness across campus. The functional programming phase ensures that both administrative and academic groups can plan on having appropriate spaces in both new or renovated locations prior to specific design (often done by the Project Management Office within FMD). Operational readiness ensures that the transition of operations into renovated or new space is done smoothly and efficiently—with nothing left to chance.

Our team is also responsible for tracking all owned and rented space for the university. As well as providing space data internally, we also prepare reports for the Ontario government. Every room in every building is tracked by room name, size, use and department. The database, named Archibus, also provides space-related information on factors like building conditions, assets and infrastructure problems.
