Planned hot water outage for utility pipe replacement September 5

August 27, 2019

Enwave, the main supplier of steam energy to Ryerson, has notified FMD that they will be replacing an aging section of pipe along Gould Street as part of routine maintenance that they have scheduled on the steam pipe infrastructure. For safety and in order to facilitate the work, Enwave will shut down the steam supply to Ryerson on Thursday, September 5 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The shutdown will affect the availability of hot water to several buildings:

  • George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre (ENG)
  • Heidelberg Centre (HEI)
  • Jorgenson Hall (JOR)
  • Kerr Hall
  • Library (LIB)
  • Podium (POD)
  • Recreation and Athletics Centre (RAC)
  • Rogers Communications Centre (RCC)
  • Ryerson Image Centre (RIC)
  • School of Image Arts (IMA)
  • School of Interior Design (SID)
  • Student Campus Centre (SCC)
  • Student Learning Centre (SLC)

How this may impact you

During the planned outage, there will be limited hot water in washrooms and kitchens, as well as the showers in the RAC. Cold water will remain in service and shower facilities at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC) will not be affected.

The construction crew will make every effort to minimize the negative impact of their work. The work will take place within the construction area that has been fenced off for the Campus Core Revitalization project.

Some temporary noise, dust and debris may be observed near LIB along Gould Street.
