Biography:

Grant Buchanan is a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Ryerson University for the RTA School of Media in the Faculty of Communication & Design (FCAD) and the Law and Business Program of the Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM).  In this role, Buchanan works closely with the deans of both FCAD and TRSM to fulfill a number of advisory and scholarly roles related to special projects and assignments.

A partner at the legal firm McCarthy Tétrault, Buchanan is a member of the firm’s communications group where his practice covers a wide range of telecom, broadcast and copyright matters. He is the co-author of a number of McCarthy Tétrault publications, including its Regulatory Guide to Canadian Television, its Canadian Broadcasting Regulatory Handbook, and the Regulatory Guide to Canadian Radio. Buchanan has also been a major contributor to the Telecommunications Regulation Handbook prepared by McCarthy Tétrault with the support of The World Bank's infoDev program.

Buchanan has been president of the Canadian Broadcasters Rights Agency for over 20 years and, previous to joining McCarthy Tétrault, was vice-president of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at Allarcom Limited and then WIC Western International Communications Ltd. for more than a decade. Listed in the 2011 edition of the Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business as a leading lawyer in telecommunications and broadcasting, Buchanan is also listed in the 2011 edition of the Best Lawyers in Canada in the area of communication law.
