As a Distinguished Producer in Residence, Linda participates in master workshop lectures, panel discussions with faculty, students and other industry leaders and provides general guidance to the RTA School of Media. While at the School, she also has the opportunity to participate in her own research and provide advice on existing RTA projects and evolving initiatives.
Dedicated to the art of storytelling, Linda is best known for work that explores the human experience, breaks stereotypes and encourages communications. As Executive Producer and Co-creator of the multi-award winning Degrassi television franchise, her work has garnered international recognition. The Degrassi franchise, whose 500th episode was produced in 2015, has won the prestigious Peabody Award, two International Emmys, over 25 Gemini/Canadian Screen Awards, two Prix Jeunesse International Awards, two Teen Choice Awards, the Critics’ Choice Award and has been nominated four times, in 2011 - 2015, for a Prime Time Emmy Award. In 2010, the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television honoured Degrassi with a special on-air tribute, and Linda with an Academy Achievement Award.
As a strong advocate of both education and the mentoring process, Linda has been a guest lecturer at Yale and Ryerson universities and at the University of Toronto. She also maintains an active involvement in a range of community and professional organizations. In 1994, in recognition of her contribution to Canadian television programming, Linda was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada. In 2012, she was also appointed to the Order of Ontario, and has been awarded honorary doctorate degrees from both Wilfrid Laurier University (2015), and the University of Toronto (2016).
