For the past six years, singers, dancers and actors from the School of Performance have travelled to Hydra to create new performances that premiere at Hydrama Theatre and then tour Greece.
In this 150th Anniversary of Confederation Summer we are particularly excited to be premiering a new work that pays tribute to the great Canadian artist Leonard Cohen. This dance/theatre production, provisionally titled “Bird on a Bench,” will premiere on Thursday July 13th at 9.00 p.m. at Hydrama Theatre on the island of Hydra. The cast includes 16 Ryerson University students, directed by Peggy Shannon and choreographed by Alyssa Martin, a highly successful graduate of our School of Performance Dance program. Vicki St. Denys, the director of the dance program, will also be present.
His Excellency, Ambassador Keith Morrill, along with Zoe Delibasis,Political & Public Affairs Officer of Global Affairs Canada, Hydra Mayor George Koukoudakis, and Minister of Culture Giorgos Panagotis plan on attending the performance. There will be a post-performance reception with the artists, Greek and North American dignitaries, and members of the international audience.
We are extremely proud of the international reputation we are building for our faculty and for Ryerson University.
