Building with Communities
The Faculty of Community Services (FCS) at Ryerson University is a community of innovators, creators, collaborators, scholars, designers, planners and practitioners who understand and care about multiple perspectives.
We strive to impact individuals and communities to propel positive and enduring change. With passion, rigour and curiosity, we develop knowledge for action, prepare students to address complex social and ecological challenges, and work to create a just society by engaging with communities.
Message from the Dean
I am pleased to share our first annual year in review publication for the Faculty of Community Services (FCS) at Ryerson University: Building with Communities. In this 2018-19 edition, you will find examples of some of our many successes from the last academic year in research, community engagement, equity and inclusion, student experience, teaching and partnerships.
While I am proud of our work in all of these areas, I am especially proud of our efforts to enhance equity and inclusion at the faculty. As just two examples of our work in this area, this year we launched the Equity and Inclusion Project Fund, opens in new window, under the leadership of an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee. We also successfully recruited Lynn Lavallée back to Ryerson, opens in new window into the newly created position of FCS Strategic Lead, Indigenous Resurgence.
This year, and every year, the work of FCS students, faculty, staff, and alumni has had a direct, positive impact on communities, both locally and globally. At FCS, rather than just theorize about change, we also work on the ground, in collaboration with communities, to create change. We are building with communities: building healthier cities and a more inclusive world.
I’d like to thank the many departments across FCS and Ryerson, opens in new window who have generously contributed data and time to this year in review project. I invite you to read more about our achievements from the 2018-19 academic year and to be in touch with us anytime.
Dean, Faculty of Community Services
