Important information for students from the Office of the Dean, FCS: COVID-19

We hope you are taking care of yourselves and your communities at this time. Your safety, and the safety of the communities you support are our main priority. We are working closely with all FCS schools during this time of transition to make sure your learning needs continue to be met, and your safety is prioritized. In addition to receiving faculty-wide updates from FCS, you will be getting information and updates from your program directors and your professors/instructors about any changes to your courses, including placements.  Also look out for additional updates on the newly launched Ryerson COVID-19 website which includes a helpful FAQ.  

Additionally, we wanted to take this opportunity to remind you that FCS Academic Support is still available (virtually) to provide guidance with assignments and learning strategies.

Faculty of Community Services COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund

Update, April 20, 2020: This fund is subject to availability and is currently unavailable as we have reached capacity. Additional funding opportunities will be announced at if they become available. 

The Faculty of Community Services (FCS) has set up an emergency fund to address the needs of FCS students who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the state of emergency. This fund is intended to provide immediate financial relief for the next month  to students who face a significant challenge affording basic needs such as groceries, rent, bills, medication, transportation, etc. due to COVID-19. Support is not intended as a source of long-term funding but to assist students as the Winter term ends.

Dean’s Office Hours  

The Office of the Dean, Faculty of Community Services, is offering services remotely effective immediately. Staff and faculty in the Dean’s Office will be monitoring email and voicemail and continue to be available as needed by phone, email, video chat, etc.

If you have any concerns relating to your specific courses, please contact your professor or instructor. Most University services are still available virtually, and we encourage you to continue to access the regular channels you would normally utilize for information and support.  However, if you need assistance and are not sure who to contact, or should you have any questions or concerns that you are not able to find answers for, please don’t hesitate to contact Dani Gomez-Ortega, Manager of Student Experience at or leave a voicemail at 416-979-5000 ext. 6197.

Student Appeals  

Faculty-level grade and standing appeal submissions can be emailed to Amanda Bello and addressed to:  

  • Nadya Burton, Associate Dean, Undergraduate Studies, Students and Pedagogy for all faculty-level undergraduate student appeals
  • Jennifer Martin, Associate Dean, Graduate Studies and SRC for all faculty-level graduate student appeals

For now - all relevant deadlines for submissions will remain the same. Visit the Registrar’s Office for general information relating to undergraduate student appeals.    

DCC & SHE Centre Atrium Bookings  

All booking requests for the DCC are suspended. The room booking calendar is temporarily not available online. While the DCC booking email is still being monitored, groups that want to cancel their bookings do not need to let us know.  

The SHE Centre Atrium (6th floor, 99 Gerrard St. E.) is not available for event bookings until at least May 1. FCS will follow Ryerson-wide guidelines regarding booking space for events.  

Internet and Laptop Loaning

The  Library is expanding their Laptop Loan program and adding Wifi Lending.  If you need a laptop loan and or wifi/internet access to continue and complete your course work please send an email to the Library at:  The library will be making these loans long term (until further notice). Laptops will be distributed via courier or in selected cases a modified pick up (by special request and arrangement). Wifi mobile sticks are on order and the library hopes to have these available by the end of the week.  Requests for both laptops and wifi should be sent directly, by email, to

On-campus events across Ryerson and FCS have been cancelled or postponed until at least May 1. This includes all student group events and faculty-sponsored events.
